Short Course Chinese Studies

These are unusual times and this is an unusual offer we make. We hope you'll avail and enjoy the experience.

What is the Offer?
A 5 week course of Mandarin Chinese with a formal qualification at the end. (HSK1*)
Two 50 minute lessons each week online via Zoom (using Breakout Rooms where helpful) accompanied by two easy online lessons from ChineseHomework.ie.
In addition to getting a basic understanding of the language you'll be given a good grounding in Chinese culture. You'll be privy to a students eye view of a flipped class with ChineseHomework.ie and how that might feel for your students of IrishHomework.ie

Please choose your preferred timeslot

Why make the offer?
  1. Given the times we find ourselves in it seems like an opportune moment to broaden students global perspective. This course will ensure you are able to deliver an enlightened perspective on Chinese language and culture this Autumn.

  2. We'd like to give you, as a language teacher, the opportunity to experience the perspective of learning a difficult new language in a flipped class with ChineseHomework.ie. In September you'll be very well placed to guide your students using IrishHomework.ie.

What's the rub?
It will take 3 hours of your time each week. (2 x 50 minute lesson, 2 x 30 minute homework) The homework is not optional.  Just like with IrishHomework.ie if you haven't your homework done you'll miss out on the in class practice.  (and you won't progress adequately)

€10 per person per lesson.  We have consistently found that a paying class is a focused class. While the course will be fun and relaxed we are very serious about getting you to HSK1 level of success and a solid cultural grounding.

Why with Us (ChineseHomework.ie)?
I have been teaching our pilot TY students class since October,  with a month off at Xmas and a hard stop on Friday 13th March.  We've just started up again in mid-May with Zoom.
The whole class passed HSK2 in January with an average of 70%,  it normally takes an academic year and a half for HSK2.  Even more satisfying was this was achieved while delivering a sizeable non language cultural component.

You'll learn quickly and efficiently and will, I'm sure, be able to impress your class with your knowledge of China and Chinese.

Classes
Classes begin week beginning 25th May, 15th June and July 20th 2020.
Max class size is 20.
You'll need a laptop with Zoom level of internet access. (If Netflix works your connection will be fine)
These will be Zoom video calls for the most part.

Each lesson is pay as you go. Two lessons per week is expected.

* HSK is the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, the Chinese state exam for Mandarin
